Sea Turtles

Through Plant A Fish and its special Salvadorian-based ViVAZUL initiative, Fabien is committed to restoring endangered sea turtles—and empowering others to do the same. The eastern Pacific hawksbill turtles are the most endangered populations of sea turtles in the world. Hope was lost to save them until very recently, a small but viable population was found nestling in the mangroves of El Salvador. Now, Fabien makes frequent trips to El Salvador, where he works with partners like ViVAZUL to engage local communities in helping “replant” baby sea turtles.

Aquarius

Residing 60 feet beneath the surface and eight miles off the shore of Key Largo, Florida, the Aquarius is the only remaining undersea marine lab in the world. Unfortunately, the high-tech "inner-space" station is at risk of being shut down due to government budget cuts. Fabien is committed to ensuring a future for Aquarius and the aquanauts who live underwater to study our coral reef ecosystems. After visiting Dr. Sylvia Earle and her team in the marine lab and seeing its value first-hand, Fabien joined the Aquarius Foundation as a board member to support the ongoing operation of the Aquarius Habitat.

PBS Ocean Adventure Series

ocean-adventure

Fabien’s grandfather Jacques-Yves Cousteau famously revealed the wonders of the world’s marine environments to PBS television viewers back in 1978. Thirty years later, PBS teamed up with Oceans Futures Society to bring the Cousteau legacy of ocean exploration and preservation to a new generation of viewers through the Ocean Adventures series. Ocean Adventures follows Fabien, his sister, his father, and the Ocean Futures team in a series of expeditions that expose both the wonders of and threats facing our marine ecosystem. From killer whales in New Zealand to deforestation in the Amazon to great white sharks in South Africa, the series provides viewers with a rare look into some of the most spectacular marine species and environments on the planet.
